About Me

My interest in genealogy and American history began at a young age. Intrigued by records my ancestors had written in an 1812 Edwards Family Bible, I grew determined to learn more about their lives in early Boston. In addition, I hoped to confirm an oral family tradition claiming a relationship to Paul Revere. Tales from my Mom's side of the family also captivated me. The daughter of a coal miner from a small town in Pennsylvania, she lost her father when she was only three and helped her mother and three siblings make ends meet through some very difficult times. During my childhood, I also developed a passion for writing and drew on family stories and a love of history to create simple books that brought my imagination to life.

As the years passed, my genealogy goals were set aside but not forgotten as I focused on my education. I attended Bryant College where I majored in marketing and became actively involved in journalism. In 1983, I graduated from Bryant earning the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. That same year I co-founded Edwards Printing Company, a full color commercial printing business located in Prospect, Connecticut. Over the next 15 years, I handled various management, marketing, and sales responsibilities for that firm, including writing, and worked with corporations and advertising agencies on numerous projects.

In the mid 1990s, my interest in the family history resurfaced and I sought to pursue my earlier aims. In my free time, I did extensive research and in the process discovered paintings of my early ancestors and the Edwards Family Bible from 1708. Motivated by these finds and a growing wealth of information, I decided to write a children's book that would tell my family's story. In 1999, I formed a small publishing firm, Spyglass Books, and within a year produced my first book One April in Boston. I released the story on audio CD in 2001.

Through my research, I was able to confirm oral tradition and prove the ancestral connection to the Revere family. Inspired by this link, I became involved with the Paul Revere House, creating their website in 1997. Today, I donate my services annually as webmaster and marketing consultant and serve on the Board of Directors of the Paul Revere Memorial Association. When I learned that an Edwards' relative was a member of the Sons of Liberty, I developed a relationship with the Old South Meeting House because of its strong connection to this patriotic group. I helped Old South develop its website and continue to assist them with internet and marketing related issues.

In 2002, I left the printing field and the small Connecticut town I grew up in and relocated to Boston where I formed Write Marketing Group. Today, as president of that company, I assist clients as a copywriter and marketing consultant. I frequently walk the streets of the North End where my colonial ancestors once lived and, as a knowledgeable tour guide, offer families and groups a unique perspective of Boston's Freedom Trail. An advocate of health and fitness, I recently became a certified personal trainer and enjoy movies, the theatre, dining out and socializing with friends.

Note: The pocket watch, circa. 1918, that is featured on the homepage of this website belonged to my maternal grandfather, George Lakatta. George was a coal miner from Winton, Pennsylvania. The first 2 images that appear inside the watch are George and his wife, my maternal grandmother, Helen Kostelnik.
